Columbus Food Scene Updates: Farewell to Kihachi and New Culinary Openings

Columbus bids a heartfelt goodbye to Kihachi Japanese Restaurant, a cornerstone of the city’s culinary identity. Located at 2667 Federated Blvd., this renowned establishment has been a beacon of authentic Japanese cuisine since 1993. Chef-owner Ryuji “Mike” Kimura, the visionary behind Kihachi, will close its doors on Saturday, Dec. 15, marking the end of an era.

Known for his meticulous attention to traditional Japanese techniques and his celebrated omakase menus, Kimura earned national acclaim when Anthony Bourdain featured Kihachi on his show No Reservations in 2010. For decades, Kihachi set the gold standard for Japanese dining in Columbus. While the Sawmill Plaza space awaits its next tenant, the legacy of Kihachi will remain etched in the memories of its loyal patrons.
