Red Oak Community School is hosting a unique take on the Japanese spring Matsuri (festival). Students from this nature-immersion elementary school have directed and will perform a Happyokai (student recital) to kick off the afternoon’s festivities along with the Columbus Koto Ensemble.
All are welcome!
During Happyokai (12:00) — Red Oak students will perform the Mukashi-Banashi (Japanese folktale) called "Omusubi Kororin," or "Rolling, Rolling Rice Ball." The children participate in almost every detail; Happyokai is child-led. They design the props, help make costumes and are involved in the creation from start to finish.
The family-friendly festival Matsuri (1:30 - 4:00) — Follows the Happyokai performance. Matsuri is free, but some booths require a ticket to participate and will cost $1-$2 depending on the activity. Wristbands for unlimited game play will be available at $20 each. All proceeds benefit Red Oak Community School.
