Ben joined JASCO in 2017, coming from the world of higher education. In the role as Director, he brings together his experiences in education, outreach, and organizational development in support of JASCO's mission to deepen understanding of and appreciation for the Japan-America relationship in Central Ohio. He received from his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology in 2013 from the University of Pittsburgh, where his research focused on contemporary usages of taiko (Japanese drums). He's also a performer of taiko, currently serving as Assistant Director for the Dublin City Schools-based school taiko group Dublin Taiko, and is an incoming member of the Taiko Community Alliance Board of Directors.
With 35 years of teaching experience at various universities, Jun is currently an adjunct Japanese professor at Ohio Wesleyan University and the Director of Japanese Programs at JASCO.
