Join JASCO as we learn about indigo dyeing techniques in Japan with the Mashiko International Exchange Association, hosted by the Dublin Arts Council.
The city of Mashiko, Togichi Prefecture, Japan (Dublin's Friendship City) is well-known for its long tradition of indigo dyeing. The art is called "aizome" (藍染め) in Japanese, "ai" being the Japanese word for indigo and "zome" meaning "dyeing."
In a hands-on workshop led by members of the Mashiko International Exchange Association, an organization dedicated to supporting the Mashiko-Dublin friendship relationship, you will learn about the history of indigo dyeing in Mashiko, and then get a chance to try your hand at indigo dyeing! each participant will be able to dye two items. choosing from items such as t-shirts, handkerchiefs, and scarves.
JASCO members: $25
Non-JASCO Members: $35
Participation fees will cover all material costs and space fees for the event.
