YUKATA DRESSING CLASS

Join JASCO and Columbus Kimono for a special four-week class series introducing you to the ins and outs of dressing in a yukata!








When: Saturdays in June (June 9, 16, 23, 30), 4-6 PM


Where: Dublin Entrepreneurial Center Networking Room, 1st Floor, Two Metro Place, 565 Metro Place S, Dublin, Oh 43017


Cost: $120 for JASCO members, $150 for non-members


Registration fees include:

- participation in 4 classes

- Use of yukata and dressing items provided by Columbus Kimono

- A kit for your personal use that you can take  home with you at the end of the class

-- Kit includes: a pair of himo (ties), a summer mesh obi stiffener, and a datejime (a cord used to help tie the obi)



Class will meet once a week on Saturdays, 4-6 PM, in the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center Networking Room, on the 1st floor of Two Metro Place, 565 Metro Place S, Dublin, OH 43017.

This class is designed for wearing female yukata, but men may attend the third week of class to learn the kai no kochi musubi (as it is the same as the female version). A one-time $20 would apply. 

This program is based on a minimum enrollment of 5 participants. JASCO reserves the right to cancel the course when the required minimum enrollment is not met. Earliest notification will be given and participants will receive a full refund.

Tentative Schedule:

1st week

  • Parts of yukata & dressing set
    • Yukata, slip, hanhaba obi, himo, geta
    • Designs, seasonality
  • Sizing-wingspan, around hip, height
  • Assigning yukata and dressing practice (ohashori)
  • How to fold, wash and store
    • Folding practice

2nd week

  • Begin with base; ohashori check. 
  • Dressing demo with bunko musubi
  • Dressing practice/follow along
  • Folding practice

3rd week

  • Dressing demo with kai no kuchi musubi
  • Dressing practice/follow along
  • Mystery musubi
  • Additional accessories for yukata
    • Obi kazari, decorative obijime, obidome, fans.
  • Folding practice

4th week

  • Partner practice with choice of musubi
  • Musubi tying ‘test’
  • Kimono movement- walking, sitting in western chairs and seiza, moving/tying back sleeves
  • Resources for buying yukata
  • Info for 2nd level classes; example of more formal ensemble
  • Folding practice
