July Culture Club
The topic for this month’s Culture Club is Tanabata!
Also known as the Star Festival, Tanabata (七夕) was traditionally held on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and is now celebrated on July 7. This festival celebrates the once-a-year meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi, star-crossed lovers who can only meet on Tanabata. People celebrate Tanabata by writing their wishes on small pieces of paper called tanzaku (短冊) and hanging them on bamboo.
Join as we learn more about the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, look at how Tanabata is celebrated around the world, and write our own wishes on tanzaku!
